The Base: Canada's first accelerator designed exclusively to propel artists

When we say the word "accelerator" in today's business world, a very specific image often comes to mind. We imagine glass-fronted offices in downtown Montreal or Toronto, filled with software developers, artificial intelligence startups, and technology companies looking for their next round of funding.

This is the classic model. It works, it has proven itself, but it leaves a whole section of our economy and culture by the wayside.

While technology monopolizes all attention and resources, a crucial question remains: who cares for those who create the beauty, emotion, and tangible identity of our culture? Who supports artists and artisans?

It is to fill this glaring gap that Le Socle was born. And we don't do things halfway: we are proud to be the first accelerator in Canada to be entirely and exclusively dedicated to artists.

Breaking the "Techno-Centric" Mold

The Canadian entrepreneurial landscape is vast, but it suffers from a disconcerting homogeneity when it comes to growth support. Until now, if you were an artist with entrepreneurial ambitions, the doors of traditional accelerators were often closed to you. Why? Because your business model didn't fit the SaaS (Software as a Service) model or because your studio wasn't located in an urban tech hub.

Le socle arrives as a necessary paradigm shift. We firmly believe that art is not merely a pastime or a romantic passion to be lived in precarious circumstances. Art is a business. Craftsmanship is an economic force.

Unlike organizations that focus their efforts solely on major urban centers, Le Socle is dedicated to supporting talent wherever it may be found. We know that Quebec creativity isn't confined to a specific postal code. It flourishes in rural areas, in small workshops, in garages converted into studios, and in the minds of creators just waiting for a strategic boost to take off.

Max Doré, président et fondateur du Socle

A vision championed by Max Doré

To break such an established mold, a clear vision and bold direction were needed. Led by Max Doré, Le Socle is not a bureaucratic institution; it is a commando unit dedicated to artistic success.

Max Doré founded Le Socle with an unwavering conviction: Quebec artists have the talent to conquer the world, but they often lack the structure, strategy and capital to move from the "creation" stage to the "expansion" stage.

Under his leadership, Le Socle doesn't just offer vague advice. We provide a rigorous acceleration structure, tailored to the realities of creative work. How do you scale artisanal production? How do you market a work of art without selling its soul? How do you export Quebec expertise? These are the questions Max and his team tackle every day.

The freedom of 100% private funds

This is where Le Socle radically distinguishes itself from the majority of cultural initiatives in Canada.

Typically, support for artists means government grants. While necessary, these grants often come with their share of red tape, restrictive eligibility criteria, endless delays, and complex reporting requirements. The grant system is designed for maintenance and survival, rarely for aggressive acceleration and exponential growth.

The Base is a game changer with a model based on 100% private funding.

Why is this so important?

  • Agility and Speed: We don't need to wait for ministerial committee approval to act. When an artist is ready and an opportunity arises, we can move quickly.

  • Investment Mindset: We don't do charity. We invest in potential. This approach changes the dynamic: we are partners in your financial and artistic success.

  • Total Independence: Being accountable only to our mission and our results, we have the freedom to support bold, atypical or disruptive projects that might not fit into traditional government categories.

Unleash the art of Quebec

Our mission isn't to help you survive. Our mission is to unleash your art.

The term may seem strong, but it's deliberate. Too often, artists and craftspeople are told to "stay small," to see their art as just a side project. At Le Socle, we reject this narrative.

We want to see Quebec artists dominate international markets. We want to see local artisans transform their workshops into thriving SMEs that hire and have a global reach. We want to prove to the rest of Canada that the accelerator model isn't just for coders, but also for creators.

Being the first accelerator for artists in Canada is a title we wear with pride, but above all, it's a responsibility. It's the responsibility to prove that art is a driver of wealth and that, with the right support and funding, local talent knows no bounds.

You have the talent. We have the foundation to propel it.
